It was so good to hear from you on Christmas! And I had so many emails too...okay 1/2 of them were from Nicki, hahaI had a great Christmas, definitely the best it could possibly be without family. We had a really fancy dinner at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and had a Christmas program in our chapel that is in the JSMB. I had to be the chorister for our zone's musical number and I was so nervous! I printed some pictures today that I'll be sending along shortly.
Today I went to Gateway Mall with 1 other companionship and is was so weird to be in the 'real world'. We have to wear our proselyting clothes and tags so people were making the strangest faces at us...especially in Forever21 and Urban Outfitters, like we weren't allowed to be in there or something =) As you can imagine, I was really struggling not to dance to the music in the stores! So I had a WONDERFUL experience this week. I don't think I can even describe it very well but I'll give it my best effort. On Tuesday, a man and a woman, probably about in their 50's from Manitoba, Canada came to Temple Square and wanted a tour. They seemed pretty down at the beginning because their flight had been cancelled and they were stuck in SLC until Christmas day. Long story short, the Spirit was so strong and as we went to the Christus I bore testimony about the atonement and how our Savior knows all of our pains, sorrows, and struggles. The woman started to cry and told me that her brother had just died that week and she believed that she could draw closer to Christ and be healed, even though it was a difficult experience for her to go through. As we were
walking outside I said, "bundle up!" and the woman said,"It is amazing how it is so cold outside but I feel so warm here!" Ha I love the Spirit! We taught them how families can be together forever and how in the temple we do sealings and baptisms for the dead (this is not something we normally bring up with new investigators on a tour but I really felt she needed to know about it.) We ended in the Tabernacle and Sis. Escalante and I sang 'Families Can be Together Forever' for them. She once again started crying and said,"This started out as such a terrible day, but I know God wanted me to be stuck in Salt Lake City so I could have this experience." She accepted to have the missionaries come and teach her and her husband and on the comment part of the card she wrote,"This tour was the most incredible experience of my life." (Little did she know it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life =) I know that the tour wasn't amazing because of Sister Excalante and I, it was because we all felt the Spirit and the love of God. It is amazing how in just thirty minutes I could see their lives change. Temple Square really is a special place to be serving. I love you all so very, very much.
